Oftentimes, when a customer considers an upgrade, their thinking centers around the latest and greatest processors. Now, while the processor is clearly a critical factor in achieving performance goals, it is a single part of the equation. The optimal combination of compute, storage and networking is essential for getting the most power and performance from your IT. But how do you know and, more importantly, how do you let your customers know where they stand?

A new tool from Intel® can help you clearly visualize, qualify and quantify how adjusting the component parts—processor, storage and networking—will affect system performance. Moreover, this tool gives you the capability to show—not just tell—your customers what they can expect if they Scale IT Up.

The balance of Intel® Xeon® Scalable processors, Intel® SSDs and Intel® Ethernet network adapters is essential for helping your customers get the most out of their server investments. The right balance can optimize performance. With the Scale IT Up tool, you can see how performance is affected by changing one or more of the component parts. For example, you can see how upgrading to an Intel® Xeon® Silver processor over the previous generation results in compute performance gains and supports more VMs. Moreover, you can see how adjusting storage by swapping out HDDs with data center series NVMe-based SSDs provides even better performance. Finally, to really break through the bottlenecks and see the best performance, you must address the network. A minimum of 10GbE is required to provide sufficient bandwidth for NVMe. Ultimately, you’ll realize optimal results by upgrading all three component subsystems.

How to Scale IT Up

Use the Storage and Connectivity Comparison Tool for Intel® Xeon® Scalable platforms to help you confidently steer your customers through an upgrade progression.

  • Scale up to Intel® Xeon® Silver, Gold or Platinum processors to increase application responsiveness and VM density
  • Eliminate the limitations of SATA and SAS HDD storage with an upgrade to NVMe SSDs
  • Upgrade 1GbE networks to 10/25/40GbE to reduce latency and improve responsiveness
